Product use so far: Slow cooked brisket (smoke boost mode) Steaks Burgers Dogs Sausage Brats Corn Zucchini Chicken breast Chicken thighs Hot wings What works great The app Temp probes Recipe search Steady temps Ease of cleaning Flavor Sear plate - this is amazing The addictive aroma Absolutely loved the packaging because it used no polystyrene (Styrofoam) What does not work great Issue 1 The grill shut down for some reason during my first slow cook. After it went through the shutdown, the grill was restarted. Then the temp climbed uncontrolled and started a grease fire. This was the very 1st time using the grill for food. It had been seasoned according to instructions. The fire reach greater than 800 degrees F. This not only ruined the brisket but was a major safety concern. If the grill was not being closely monitored, it could have easily lead to a uncontrollable yard fire. Must stress the root cause of the uncontrollable temperature climb is still unknown but might have something to do with pellets continuing to being fed after the flame went out. I observed this 2 days later while grilling hot wings. The flame went out, pellets continued to feed, and after restarting it led to uncontrollable temperature climb. Fortunately the wings were mostly done and I cut the power. This issue has yet to occur again and every cook since has been fantastic. Issue 2 This involves software behavior when there is a power loss. A sprinkler tripped the GFCI the grill was plugged into. After resetting the GFCI, the software required full shut down sequence completion in the middle of another slow cook. This takes 15-20 minutes and brings the grill temp to nearly ambient temperature. There should be an option to bypass the shut down requirement after power loss.
This grill replaces a 2nd gen LX4 which had continuous problems which Weber tried to remedy and helped me get into the Sear +. It's performed flawlessly, you can hear the fan react differently to different conditions such as opening lid to changing temps. The sear plate works great and the internal light is a must for evening grills.
I bought my SmokeFire Sear+ ELX4 less than a year ago and this has not been a good value. I had been happy with weber grills in the past and decided to buy a "nice" smoker from Weber. So, I spent Weber money on a very poorly made and unreliable smoker. The sheet metal body, and all the brackets you mount heat spreaders and grates on are all extremely thin and flimsy. The grates are VERY nice. They are the nicest part of this grill. When it works, it does get to temperature very quickly. However, the glow plug situation has led me to flameouts and ruined food. The glow plug mount is so flimsy and cheap it's no wonder why everyone has problems with glow plugs. It is made of plastic with super light gauge wire and does not securely hold the plug hence lack of heat and flame. The plug is where high current flows to generate the heat to light the pellets. This connection is VERY flimsy and unreliable. The service is OK. They will offer to replace parts. But coincidentally, there are no glow plugs and no glow plug brackets available. So, I now have a VERY expensive paper weight as grilling season is coming. After spending Weber money on a grill, you should NOT ever be in this position of a paperweight due to cheap components. I had another brand in the past and it worked flawlessly for 3 years without having to do anything to it. It just didn't hit the temperatures the SmokeFire does for grilling. I wish I didn't get rid of my old smoker and just gotten a cheap gas grill for high temp and saved a TON of money. I also purchased the weber because it was made in the USA thinking I was getting quality. I was wrong.
I received my SmokeFire earlier this month. It was easy to assemble. I have made cube steak, grilled burgers, smoked baby back ribs, smoked beef jerky (using smoke boost) and grilled brats on the SmokeFire so far. It has all turned out really good. I did have one instance when I went to use my SmokeFire, I set the temperature and after a couple of minutes it started smoking so I went into the house to prepare the meat. I was following the preheat process on my phone and noticed that the internal grill tempature was not increasing. After a few minutes, I went out to check on the SmokeFire and it was no longer smoking and no heat was being produced. I shutdown the SmokeFire and cooked the meat another way. Hopefully this was just a one-off fluke. This is my first pellet grill so I was surprised at the number of pellets it goes through. The grill is easy to clean.
This is my first pellet grill/smoker purchase. I have a Weber Genesis gas grill that has been awesome for many years. I've been using this grill for about 2 months now and have 2 concerns. The first is how flimsy the legs feel. I do not have the luxury of a paved driveway so every time I want to use the grill, I have to roll it out of the pole barn across asphalt millings and I'm nervous that a leg might break. I wish that they would've beefed up the legs a little bit for the price of the grill. My second concern is that I wish I was able to use any brand of pellets with it. I noticed that the Weber brand pellets are quite a bit smaller in diameter than other brands and my grill would actually plug up while using the off brand pellets. Apart from that, the grill has produced some very tasty food and actually holds heat quite well in cold temperatures. I'm excited to see how it holds up.
I really wanted to like this smoker, but after having it for over a month I've had nothing but issues with it. The fire goes out, never starts, or overflows with pellets creating a dangerous amount of white smoke that sometimes explodes the lid open. As a long time Weber customer, I'm very disappointed by the SmokeFire and the time I've wasted on it.

I purchased this grill 2 years ago.. nothing but issues, the beginning, customer service was on top of it, and helpful in correcting issues the grill had, which are many! recently I've been down for almost 3 weeks not and I still cant get anyone but the automated customer service to respond.. This is not the same company it used to be and that's coming from a long-time customer of 30 years all because they USED to have great customer service. I will not be buying any Weber products in the future due to how the company is operating now.
While I have only used this grill one time so far, it was amazing on that cook. Holds temperature perfectly!

I've had nothing but issues with this grill. First, the controller broke within the first week. Called weber support they sent a new one. Ok, let's try this again... 2 weeks later the auger motor quits. Took almost 2 weeks to get a replacement sent out. Unable to return the grill unless weber deems it defective, which they wont. So I'm stuck with it. Has lots of flame out errors. Tried all kinds of pellet brands with no luck. Maybe it was because the motor was failing, I dont know for sure. I used my old grill 2-3x per week which worked great, just wanted a little bigger grill with wifi. Smoke boost is a cool feature that works great. Seems like it should be a great grill, but that hasn't been the case for me. Now its just an expensive deck ornament while parts are on order. I cant wait to see what breaks next! Support hasn't been great from either party.
After smoking on a WSM for 20yrs I made the switch to a Smokefire ELX4 after months of research. It arrived 2 weeks ago and assembly was actually fun with just my wife and I. I still like to smoke with water and this is possible without using grate space on the Smokefire. So far I've done burgers (smoked as well as grilled), ribs, and a 2" bone-in ribeye. All have turned out amazingly well! As a KCBS judge, I am pretty familiar with quality BBQ. I used Smokeboost for the burgers but not the rest as I'm trying to do a head-to- head comparison with my WSM but the Smokboost definitely can add more smokey flavor than my WSM. So far it's a breeze to use! I tried using drip/water pans without the wet smoke kit but found it's much easier to just get the kit and avoid spills. I am meticulous with cleaning and found the Smokefire isn't that hard to clean. I am looking forward to trying new and bigger recipes because of how easy it is to use. The app works great and Weber videos on Youtube are also extremely helpful. Also, the smoker arrived already registered with Weber- nice bonus. Thanks to Weber for doing it again. I know it's early but i can tell how well this will work. To my WSM- rest in peace. You did well.

Hi Billy. Yes, while Weber would prefer you use their pellets, any brand of pellets can be used.

When will my item arrive?
Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.
- Most freight products ship on a pallet
- Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
- We'll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.
For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:
Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can't be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we've only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.
For carriers that deliver without an appointment:
Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
